Cylinder Test Report of Concrete with Details Discussion:

Cylinder test report is very important part in civil engineering construction project. After testing the cylinder, we can measure accurately the actual design result compare with average crushing result. 

Which Options are Included in testing result:

1. Number of test according to Test Laboratory:

This section describe about testing institute name and reference number of laboratory. 
Example:- KKTCC-11077/CE

2. Sent by- Person Name or Engineer Name

Who is responsible about sending the letter is describe here. as like as engineer name or other responsible person name.

3. Reference Number- Letter reference number

Here letter reference number describe and date also include. 
Example:- 1234. date:1/1/11

4. Project name and Address

Project name , short details and address show here. 
Example:- 4-storied rcc building, village, post, thana, district.

5. Sample Quantity

Quantity of sample as like 3 nos, 6 nos, 9 nos , or set type.

6. Sample Type

Sample type sealed or unsealed condition given here.

7. Mix Proportions

Design mixing proportion describe here.
Example:- 1:1.5:3, 1:2:4, 1:1:2, 1:1.75:2.5, 1:2:2.5, 1:1.25:2.5 etc.

8. Aggregates Type

Coarse aggregates type details here.
Example:- Stone, Brick chips or others.

9. Location

Casting grid number, footing, slab, column, beam, or others describe here.

10. Test Type and reference Code

Compressive strength test according to ASTM Code.

11. Date of Test

Date of testing is 01/01/1111

Test Report:

1. Serial Number of Cylinder 3 Nos or 1 set.

2. Date of Casting as per the letter.

3. Specimen designation or frog mark.

4. Specimen area per square inches.

5. Maximum Loads in pounds.

6. Crushing strength in pounds per square inches.

7. Average crushing strength 

8. Mode of failure type


Report Discuss-1:

Cylinder diameter was 4" x 8" . Diameter 4" and height 8".

Specimen area Calculation:

1) Area = (pi) x (Square diameter)/4
= 3.14 x 4 x 4/4
= 12.56 Square inches

2) Area = (pi) x (Square diameter)/4
= 3.14 x 4 x 4/4
= 12.56 Square inches

3) Area = (pi) x (Square diameter)/4
= 3.14 x 4 x 4/4
= 12.56 Square inches

But here is given in picture that not similar because of diameter of cylinder has some variation from each to other.

Maximum Load = 88,881+88,831+92,019 lb (pounds)

Crushing Strength = 7370+7297+7555 = 22,222

Average crushing Strength = 22,222/3 = 7407=7410 PSI (POUNDS PER SQUARE INCHES)


How to calculate Mpa ( Mega-pascal):

We know that, 1Mpa = 145 psi
So, 7410/145 = 51.10 Mpa

Load Carrying Capacity 521 kg/centimeter square.


Mode of Failure:

Mode of failure means sand, stone crushing smoothly and easily. It is called combined failure.

Another Cylinder diameter was 4" x 8" . Diameter 4" and height 8".

Specimen area Calculation:

1) Area = (pi) x (Square diameter)/4
= 3.14 x 4 x 4/4
= 12.56 Square inches

= 12.56 Square inches

3) Area = (pi) x (Square diameter)/4
= 3.14 x 4 x 4/4
= 12.56 Square inches

But here is given in picture that not similar because of diameter of cylinder has some variation from each to other.

Maximum Load = 60,256+60,256+64,788 lb (pounds)

Crushing Strength = 4852+4852+5216 = 14,920

Average crushing Strength = 14920/3 =4973 PSI (POUNDS PER SQUARE INCHES)


How to calculate Mpa ( Mega-pascal):

We know that, 1Mpa = 145 psi
So, 4973/145 = 34.29 Mpa

Load Carrying Capacity 349 kg/centimeter square.

Mode of failure means sand, stone crushing smoothly and easily. It is called combined failure.
