# Calculate Volume of Wood:

Civil engineering any kind of construction works, there have obviously wooden works as like as the architectural instruction. According to architectural instructions like door, window, architectural design have many kinds of wooden works that is very important for construction design and others. So every engineer should have knowledge about any kinds of calculating the volume of wood. This volume can be in cubic feet or cubic meter or cubic centimeter or cubic millimeter. Today we will learn about find out the proper guideline to calculate volume of wood.

What kinds of  Materials needed to calculate the Volume:

Suppose, you are a engineer of a construction project. That construction projects finishing works are running. There have 40 to 50 nos door that will be make by wood. In that cases you will need to calculate the volume.

Another type is, suppose your project are ready to casting the slab. But you need to some wood for centering and shuttering works. For that reason you can calculate that proper volume with perfect method.

Data for Calculation:

In the above picture have given-
The length of wood = 20'-0"
and width of wood = 20'-0"
Thickness given =  0'-5"

First, we will find the measurement that is given feet, inches or meter???

Here is length and width by feet and thickness is inches. so we will first convert the inches to feet.
we know that 5" = 0.42 feet

Volume calculation formula- length x width x thickness/depth/height

So, total volume of wood = 20'-0" x 20'-0" x 0.42'-0"
168 CFT ( Cubic Feet)

Length of the wood = 36'-9"
Width f the wood = 20'-10"
Convert inches to feet = 9" = 0.75 feet
convert- 10" = 0.83 feet

So actual length = 36.75 feet
actual width = 20.83 feet
and given thickness = 6" = 0.50 feet

So Volume = 36.75 x 20.83 x 0.50 feet
= 382.75 CFT ( Cubic Feet)
we can write by equally- 383 CFT

Suppose, above the picture, there have a plank that size is 25'-4" x 25'-4" x 8" . Your project needed 250 Nos of this plank. so how can you calculate this???

Data Calculation First:

Plank length = 25'-4"
Plank width = 13'-6"
Plank thickness assume = 8"

Actual length = 25.33 feet
Actual width = 13.50 feet
Actual thickness = 0.67 feet

So Volume = 25.33 x 13.50 x 0.67 feet
= 229.11 CFT ( Cubic Feet)
Total quantity = 250 Nos x 229.11 CFT
= 57,277.46 CFT
we can write by 57,278 CFT wood.

Example-1:

Suppose, there have a plank length 220 feet and width 16 feet and thickness 2 inches. You need the quantity of about 3000 Nos. How can you calculate this???

Solution:

Length of plank = 220'-0"
Width of plank = 16'-0"
Thickness of plank = 0'-2"
Convert 2 inches into feet.
2" = 0.17 feet

So volume = length x width x thickness
= 220' x 16'x 0.17'
= 598.40 CFT (Cubic Feet)
Quantity 3000 Nos.
So total quantity = 3000 x 599 CFT
= 17,95,200 CFT wood.

Example-2:

Suppose, your project have a plank length 44 feet and width 12 feet and thickness 3 inches. You need the quantity of about 244 Nos. How can you calculate this volume of wood???

Solution:

Length of plank = 44'-0"
Width of plank = 12'-0"
Thickness of plank = 0'-3"
Convert 3 inches into feet.
3" = 0.25 feet

So volume = length x width x thickness
= 44' x 12'x 0.25'
132 CFT (Cubic Feet)
Quantity 244 Nos.
So total quantity = 244 x 132 CFT
= 32,208 CFT wood.

Example-3:

Suppose, there have a plank length 350 meter and width 45 meter and thickness 0.50 meter. You need the quantity of about 120 Nos. How can you calculate this???

Solution:

Length of plank = 350 meter
Width of plank = 45 meter
Thickness of plank = 0.50 meter

So volume = length x width x thickness
= 350 x 45 x 0.50 meter
7,875 cubic meter
Quantity 120 Nos.
So total quantity = 120 x 7875 cubic meter
= 9,45,000 cubic meter wood needed.

Example-4:

Suppose, there have a plank length 34 feet and width 5 feet and thickness 5 inches. You need the quantity of about 111 Nos. How can you calculate this???

Solution:

Length of plank = 34'-0"
Width of plank = 5'-0"
Thickness of plank = 0'-5"
Convert 5 inches into feet.
5" = 0.42 feet

So volume = length x width x thickness
= 34' x 5'x 0.42'
71.4 CFT (Cubic Feet)
Quantity 111 Nos.
So total quantity = 111x 71.4 CFT
= 7925.40 CFT wood needed.

That is the tricks to calculate the volume of wood.
